Apply for All Types of Australian Parent Visa in Perth (WA)

Bringing their parents to Australia to visit or live with them is the desire of most Australian migrants. After you have obtained permanent residency or Australian citizenship, it is easy for you to help your parents visit you or come and live with you with a visa or immigration application for parents. There are different types of temporary and permanent categories of visas that your parents can apply for, based on their eligibility and requirement.

Parent Visas - Temporary and Permanent Preferences

There are two basic types of visas that an eligible Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen can sponsor for the parents – a temporary visa or a permanent visa. Within these two categories of visas, there are different subclasses based on the duration of the visa and the contributory or non-contributory nature of the visa. These are:

Visitor visa (subclass 600) (Family Sponsored Visa): This is a short-term visa that is also eligible for parents. The parents can visit and live with their child for a short time. This visa can also be applied if the parents hold any other type of visa and want to extend their stay in the country. The duration of this visa is 3, 6 or 12 months.

Contributory parent (temporary) visa (subclass 173): This is a temporary visa that allows the parent to stay in Australia for up to 2 years. The parent needs to pass the ‘balance of family test.’ It makes the parent eligible to apply for a permanent visa in due course. The parent can study and work in Australia without government support. The parent can also enrol in the Australian public health care system.

Sponsored parent (temporary) visa (subclass 870): This visa allows the parent to stay in Australia for 3-5 years. The child must sponsor the parent and the parent must apply within 6 months of receiving the sponsorship. The parent can stay in Australia for up to 10 years by applying for other visas. The parent cannot work in Australia while on an 870 visa.

Parent migrant visa (subclass 103): One of the most coveted permanent visas, the parent migrant visa subclass 103 is a long-stay visa that allows the parent of the eligible Australian citizens or PR holders to stay in Australia indefinitely. The processing fees are comparatively low but because of the cap on the number of visas issued each year, the waiting list is 25-30 years.

Contributory parent (migrant) visa (subclass 143): The fees of this category are high but the processing time is faster. The parents need to pass the ‘balance of family test.’ It allows the parent to live in Australia permanently and allows multiple entries and exits. The parent can also apply for the citizenship of Australia, if eligible.

Contributory aged parent visa (subclass 884 & 864): You can bring your aged parents to Australia with these contributory visas. The Subclass 884 visa is a temporary visa that is granted for 2 years and lets the aged parent live and study in Australia without government support. It is not renewed after 2 years and the parent can apply for a Contributory Aged Parent (Subclass 864) Visa after the expiration of the Contributory Aged Parent (temporary) Visa Subclass 884. The parent needs to meet the health and character requirement and pass the ‘balance of family’ test. The parent gets the benefit of the federal health care system with these visas and can also apply for Australian citizenship, if eligible.
